In July of 2016, Chaundra was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Cholangiocarcinoma, also known as Bile Duct Cancer. There are only about 6,000 people diagnosed with this type of cancer a year.
Chaundra was diagnosed at 29 years old, while the average age for this aggressive cancer is 65. She went for her routine check up which showed increased levels of her liver enzymes which led to an ultrasound which showed a mass on the liver. After a biopsy and tissue samples sent all over the country for testing, it was confirmed that she had Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma. The mass in her liver at the time of diagnosis was 14cm in diameter, too big to surgically remove. She began chemotherapy treatments in August and continues them today. Chaundra has been so strong throughout this ordeal and she is beyond grateful for the love and support, which gives her strength knowing so many people are rooting for her!
As Chaundra nears the finish line of this year and a half long journey, you can imagine medical costs have been piling up.
