‘Moving out West,’ after a lifetime of dreaming of mountains in the Midwestern United States; I came with dreams of being a great alpinist and a start up job professionally climbing trees. ‘Learning the ropes,’ in this manner sounded delightful and less threatening than towering walls of ice and rock. Until I fully became aware that I am the largest threat to be wary of. While working in the competitive, fast paced and unforgiving world of Arboriculture, I lost control of my rope during a routine rappel. Failing to see past my ego, I chose to not back the system up with a safety stopping device; I free fell down the rope - only to realize milliseconds before it was too late. A blinding red and white flash swept over my field of vision, and I landed mid-back on a 6 foot tall brick wall.
Most of my friends and family are aware of this recent rappelling accident; causing a compression burst fracture to my T12 vertebral disc, in the center of my spine. Miraculously, I am climbing again, practicing extra safety techniques, retraining my body to a fully recovered state and helping other climbers with advanced safety tips. After this life-changing and traumatic experience, I realize that it’s not worth it, NOT to live everyday in the truest vision of your own dream. Now, I take a leap of faith to follow my dreams of being a Mountaineering and Canyoneering Guide, in a healthier work environment. Although these life choices lead to great internal wealth, worldly constraints, like obtaining a livable income, can present barriers to overcome. The illusion of financial stability, may come far and few in between. Therefore, I am asking for financial assistance in the pursuit of living my passion, so that I may safely share it with others.
I was offered a position to help guide in the Utah canyonlands for two months. While this is an amazing opportunity and HUGE to my life’s work, it is an unpaid position at this time. Making a base camp out of the bed of my small pickup truck, under the protection of my truck’s canopy, I plan utilizing any and all of my resources to pursue my dream, which is literally manifesting into reality right in front of my eyes! Starting a career in adventure guiding takes time to become lucrative, which is why I am asking for help, but as we all know, so often in life, leaps of faith don’t care about timing or money...

Canyoneering Gear: $1000
All the way from; new - safer ropes, mechanical ascenders, wetsuits, GPS/Navigation devices, strong powered head-lamps, utility watches, multi-tools, waterproof packs, new climbing/hiking footwear, ‘safest on the market’ rappel devices, to new climbing webbing and sunscreen. I need it all!
Sustaining Rental: $550
My 250 sq ft guest is, to say the least quaint, but it is my home. My small cottage is located in the quiet spot in Seattle, only ten minutes walk from the beach. I’ve poured love into every nook and cranny of it; and hope to keep it as long as I possibly can.
Food & Water: $450
This will provide for ample food and water supply for the months of March and April. Plus, one or two celebratory outings with one or more of our adventure groups!
Building Living Quarters: $900
Perhaps, one of the most exciting portions of the conquest, will be building living quarters under the canopy of my truck topper. Our design will allow for the creation of a cot-sized platform to sleep on with cabinetry underneath for gear storage, a small crawl space, a cooler area for food, car camping cooking tools and a kitchen area -
with a counter and small sink, gasoline storage area and insulation to the frigid desert and mountain nights. Construction materials will be needed, luckily I have a plethora of construction tools at my disposal. Materials needed consist of: lumber, epoxy, simple cabinetry mechanical pieces, cooler, large cooking platform, pot/pan, fuels, battery charging station, Wifi Hotspot transmitter, 5 gallon water and gasoline canisters/tanks, hardware, insulation, felt, paints, sealants, small fans, foam padding, luggage racks, misc. building supplies and laminate - if funds are able to provide.
Gasoline & Extraneous Costs: $900
This life-long dream has come to a reality with this opportunity. I will be dishing out the remainder of my savings, not knowing what is coming next to complete the journey. The remainder of the requested proceeds will go towards gasoline and unexpected costs. Of course, I hope not to run into any unplanned hospital visits or car troubles, but this money will act as my life savings for the time being.
Additional funding will go towards camera equipment for documenting the adventure and goPro camera footage. All video and photo journalism will be documented for all to see.
Total: $3800
