Hey, my name is CJ (Charles Jnr) Dentu-Nkrumah and I’m a young, up-and-coming Actor from Sydney. I was born in Israel, brought up in Ghana and later on made my way down under to Sydney, Australia.
Over the past two years I've discovered my passion for acting. I've realised that I not only love the art form, but also excel in it. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to hone this skill that has brought happiness and focus into my life. To me, these values are most important.
Now I've been given a once in a lifetime opportunity to take my training to the next level overseas, and to make this dream of mine a reality I'll need your help!
Your pledge will directly help support my 2-year conservatory acting program at Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City, running from 26 January 2015 until December 2016.
Specifically, I am seeking your support and generosity to assist with the cost of tuition, accommodation and living expenses. Unfortunately my student visa does not allow me to work legally in New York, which makes it extremely difficult to finance all foreseen aspects of this educational experience on my own.
Trust me, getting involved with this campaign is something you will not regret. I will make sure that you are with me every step of the way – through all the ups and downs on the way to success and development as an artist. WHY DON'T I HAVE THE FUNDS ALREADY?
New York is known worldwide for being the city of great opportunity. However, it's also one of the most expensive places in the world to live. ($3.75, which approximately $4.62 AUD for a cup of coffee? It adds up!) I’ve been pouring every spare hour into mutiple jobs, both day and night, in an effort to finance this program and overcome the obstacles that stand before me.
It's been a struggle to save money for this trip under my current circumstances, which include helping my parents pay our mortgage, attending uni full-time to earn my bachelor's in commerce arts, and of course working around that schedule. I've determined that $10,000 will bolster the savings I already have an enable me to complete the 2-year conservatory program of acting and follow my dream.
Please help in any way you can. I’m eternally grateful for your generosity.
WHERE WILL YOUR MONEY GO?
The total cost of the entire course and experience is approximately $50,000–$60,000 including living expenses. Here’s a brief breakdown:
Tuition Fees: $10,590 per year x 2 years = $21,180
Accommodation: $900 per month X 24 months = $21,600
Living Expenses: $6,000 per year x 2 = $12,000 (Very low budget – no Equinox health club membership, no dinners at Alta, just hard work and good company)
Grand Total: $21,800 + 21,600 + 12,000 = $54,780
A condition of my student visa prohibits me from working in the US. This is as much a financial burden as a hindrance in my ability to fully absorb the New York City culture as so many young people my age aspire to do.
I've managed save for the initial costs of my flights, insurance, and the first three weeks of accommodation. However, I need your assistance with tuition fees, accommodation & living expenses. I know once I have the support from you to assist for my first year, by the grace of God, I will find a way to power through the second.

Risks and challenges
As you can imagine, funding this adventure is only the beginning of my journey to come. In moving to a different country, I'll be forced to adapt quickly to a new environment and set of circumstances. From the polar vortex to Shake Shack, this experience will truly place be out of my element and introduce me to a culture I've only observed through magazines and television screens.
I will be away from the comfort of my family and friends who love and support me unconditionally. Having said that, I do believe that I will be able to adjust to and embrace life in New York. The lifestyle and the culture will be an exciting breath of fresh air to accompany all that I’ll be learning in my studies.
