Chase’s Ear Surgery

Our son Chase was born with microtia/atresia of his right ear. Basically it’s an underdeveloped ear, an ear which he cannot and has never been able to hear out of. He has done really well considering the circumstances, but we want nothing more for him than for this not to be an issue for him as he gets older, especially because I know how cruel people can be. 

We already have the surgeries scheduled to reconstruct his outer ear. It’s going to take 3 separate surgeries over the course of a few months(March through July 2018) before it will be completed and we have to travel out of state to Texas for each one. With the help of family we have saved what we can to help cover this surgery, the travel expenses, and lost time from work so we can finally give Chase 2 ears that look the same. 

In addition to the reconstruction, there is another surgery he would need to open his ear canal for the potential to gain some normal hearing functions in that ear. This surgery is in California and would require approximately a 3 week stay, which means on top of paying for the surgery, which will cost anywhere from $5,000 to potentially $28,000 depending upon insurance coverage, we also have to pay for travel, lodging, and cover the lost wages from work over this time.

I really don’t like asking for things like this because really you don’t owe us anything, but I do realize that any little bit can help and you only have to donate if you really want to and you really can afford to. The soonest we would be getting the ear canal surgery would be next year(2019) and I think that is largely going to depend on how much and how soon we are able to come up with what this is going to cost us. 

I’m not asking anyone to do this for us and if it’s not within your means to help, please don’t feel you need to, but if you’re at all inclined to do so, please do it for Chase.
