The community response and the needs expressed by our restaurant community were overwhelming. Knowing this crisis will be ongoing we have shifted our efforts to partner with Blue Morning, a 501(c)3, non-profit organization. This shift will allow us to move the funds you donate faster to community members in need. All contributions made through this page are tax-deductible and made at a reduced cost. OUR WHY:
Restaurants are the heart and soul of our town. In Charlottesville, they are your neighbors, friends, moms, dads, sisters, and brothers. They are your family, your happy place, your spot that feels like home. A community of collective voices and ideas. They take care of others before themselves, they work long hours, and they work hard. They are there for us in times of celebration, and times of need. Whether it's a comforting meal after a tough day, a drink & convo when you need someone to listen, celebrating a special moment, or a coffee to start your day. Restaurants are there. Day and night. Night and day.
It's our turn to show up for them. To lend a helping hand, to offer a shoulder to lean on, to provide a warm meal, to provide relief, and to help a neighbor. To make sure they feel the same love and warmth given to them, that they provide to us.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
The local restaurant community needs our help now, more than ever. No contribution is too small. No act of kindness goes unnoticed. Reach out to your local restaurants. Ask how you can help. Dine out when you can, tip graciously, buy a gift certificate to use for later, offer a ride, and share resources. Many will have trouble paying rent, affording a trip to the doctor, and providing for their families. If you have the time, resources, and ability to help, we need helpers.
Charlottesville you're full of helpers, thank you for your time. Thank you for showing up for your community. Thank you for supporting local. Be well, wash your hands, take care of each other, spread love & joy.
HOW THE FUNDS WILL BE USED & DISTRIBUTED:
Your contribution will allow a restaurant employee to pay an important bill, pay their utility bill, afford a doctor's visit, buy a week's worth of grocceries, buy formula for their baby, buy feminine hygiene products, cover the cost of a prescription, take an Uber to work, put gas in their car, and so much more! There are a lot of restaurant employees that live paycheck to paycheck & depend on their cash tips to survive.
*All money donated will go directly to the individuals (local restaurant workers) who need the monetary support the most. Funds will be dispersed to these individuals as they come in. GoFundMe usually allows funds to be received in 2-5 business days. We will try to help out wherever we can. We are partnering with local restaurant owners to see which individuals are in need of assistance the most, and asking individuals to reach out to us as well. No contribution is too small.
