Charlotte and Alisha’s Elective Placement
Donation protected
Hello! Our names are Charlotte and Alisha and we are both studying BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy at The University of Sunderland.
As part of our placement experience, we have been granted a
fantastic, once in a lifetime opportunity to take part in a 6-week elective placement in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. We will be travelling with a company called Work the World, where we will be volunteering in a low-resource hospital, providing Occupational Therapy interventions to patients requiring physical and mental health rehabilitation.
As Occupational Therapy is an emerging healthcare practice in Tanzania, we will be expected to see a large difference between the healthcare systems in Tanzania and the UK. For example, Tanzanian Occupational Therapists are often found using handmade rehabilitation equipment - a stark difference to the services we see in the NHS.
By attending the elective placement, this will provide us with unique professional and personal learning opportunities that are not available within the UK.
We appreciate any support towards this trip - no matter how big or small, to help us achieve this once in a lifetime experience.
Thank you!
