As you all know, I came out publicly as non-binary a year ago, but those nearest and dearest to me have known I for a lot longer that I have struggled with my gender identity for well over a decade. In the last year I have grown a lot within myself and with that has come accept that I cannot continue to live as “Ben”. The happiness and confidence that exploring my femininity has brought me has solidified the niggling feeling that I have tried to push down for my whole adult life. Having spent a few years privately identifying as non-binary, I thought coming out publicly would make me feel like myself, but it didn’t sit right and I now know that is because I am a woman.
In order for me to live as my authentic self, I have realised that I will require to undergo some drastic - and bloody expensive - changes. I have spoken to my GP about this process and have been referred to my local NHS gender clinic - however the waiting time for just the initial appointment is 3 years minimum (though that can extend to upwards of 5 years). Having spent so long already living at odds with myself in a body I’m unhappy with, I cannot afford to wait that long to still have the possibility of being rejected for treatment. This is why I have decided to make this fundraiser, so that I can seek private treatment and begin to make my transition.

* Laser hair removal
* HRT/medication
* Feminisation procedures
* Top surgery
* Any other medical fees incurred
I am not expecting to reach my £8k target, but have set this up as a realistic amount needed for all those treatments. I will of course be working hard and saving as much as I can of my own salary, but anything you can spare to help me reach my target sooner would mean the world to me. I simply do not want to spend any longer of my life living as someone I am not.
