Charlie's Emergency Dental Work
Donation protected
Hi there, I'm Brian, and this is my loving little buddy Charlie. He's a Shiba Inu and he just turned five in December 2023.
Charlie is a rescue and he was a puppy mill dog. As you know, puppy mills produce a litney of issues for dogs, including dental issues. Unfortunately, my sweet boy is not exempt.
The people who I got Charlie from were treating him at a vet in Lewis Center, Ohio, who said that he had fine dental health, fine bone structure, and was a generally healthy dog. Sadly, after switching veterinarians to CityPets, I was informed that this was in fact not the case. Charlie has premature arthritis in both of his back legs, causing some pain in his hips, which he deals with pretty well at present moment. The more pressing matter was his teeth. He has a _large_ molar on his driver side that is so large that it seems to be two or more teeth fused together. This was likely caused by puppy mill breeding. My vet told me that this likely makes him uncomfortable but is livable, but the tooth would inevitably have to be removed. They quoted me $1,350.00, plus an additional $50.00 for an office visit. I decided that I would wait until I had saved the money, hopefully by summer, and get the tooth removed.
Unfortunately for us, I cannot wait any longer. This week, Charlie began to show pain on the left side of his mouth. He cracked this massive molar, probably on a chew toy or possibly hard food. While he is still eating and drinking, he can only have soft food and room temperature water. An office visit to the OSU emergency vet was ultimately fruitless - they told me they could not help him due to them not doing dental work, and to keep him on soft food until our normal vet can get him in. MedVet in Columbus also does not do dental work. Our plan is to get him into CityPets ASAP, and hope that they're able to get him pain medication in the meantime.
I am a dog walker and a full-time student. While I can afford his medication, sadly, I simply cannot afford the entirety of Charlie's tooth extraction all by myself. Anything that you could give to help ease my sweet boy's pain, we would be greatly appreciative of.
Every penny donated up to $1350.00 will go to Charlie's surgery and recovery. Any additional funds will be donated to Pets Without Parents in Columbus, OH, and Midwest Shiba Inu Rescue in Gurnee, IL.
Thanks for your time and for reading this. <3
UPDATE: Wow, I am FLOORED at the support from everyone in the last ~18 hours. Charlie and I are so, so incredibly thankful and humbled for everyone’s donations. Charlie is scheduled for his pre-surgery bloodwork tomorrow morning at 9AM, and the extraction is scheduled for Friday at 8AM. Again, thank everyone who donated and shared. You are all amazing.
