Dear Friends and Colleagues:
In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria's impact on Puerto Rico, there has been, and continues to be, a tremendous amount of support and outreach by so many colleagues who have asked how they could help or what they can provide for our friend and colleague, Charlie Rios. Many, including Charlie's brother and sister, have severely damaged homes that will require many months and resources to rebuild. We have set this fund up so that anyone who would like to contribute to aid Charlie and Puerto Rico, can do so through this account. All funds will be directed to Charlie and me so that we can directly use these funds to purchase, ship, and deliver much needed supplies to the island and contribute to the recovery and re-building efforts.

Dear Colleagues:
I hope this email finds you and your families well, as you all know by now, my beautiful island was hit by Hurricaine Irma and only 2 weeks later by Hurricane Maria. No doubt you have seen the devastation caused by the storm, the images are very sad, horrible and very perplexing. I can personally tell you after living in PR all my life and lived through at least 7 storms in my lifetime, this was the worst of all. The whole island was affected and a humanitarian crisis is currently developing in our country. We are so lucky to have the USA back us up, although slow for many puzzling reasons the help is getting there and we will stand from this disaster. The people of my country have stood up before and we will again, it's just going to take a little more time.
The messages of affection, texts, phone calls that I have received from my dear colleagues and friends from Celgene have been many. Maybe I did not get to answer some of you because of communication problems, I apologize. Be sure, that your messages were not ignored and were a great part of my well-being knowing that I have so many people worried about me and my family. Although mail services have not normalized, all the supplies you guys have sent will be put to good use, I will return next week with additional supplies. My thoughts also go out to the people of Houston and Florida, I know what you guys are going through, my heart goes out to all of you. The important thing is that our families are well, material items can be replaced, life is precious and should be treated as such.
I am so thankful of all for thinking of me and my family, I never knew I had so many people who cared about us, I am eternally grateful. God bless you all.
