Charles Gamble Memorial Tribute

Donation protected
A little more than 2 years ago we lost an extraordinary man. Charles Gamble was a dear friend  to so many people and was perhaps the most giving person I have ever met.   He smiled through his personal pain and most people would never know the daily battle that he was fighting with depression. He gave of himself completely to all of those who knew him, and we are all better for the gift of his friendship.  We feel the loss still, and miss that smile that was quickly available to anyone and everyone.

Charles loved many things, but observing him outside in nature you could tell he was most at home there.  We want to build a place that ALL those that loved Charles could go to visit and feel his presence.  Many of you know that Charles was a “manny” to our 3 young boys.  There are not words to describe what he meant to our family, and I know that sentiment will echo with many of his friends and coworkers.  Over the  5 years he took care of the boys, one of the places they would visit often was Wickham Park in Manchester, CT; it is such a beautiful and special place and one that feels perfect to serve as the place we could all go to visit the friend we miss.  Each time we go there, we feel him with us stronger than anywhere else.

We have been working with the Operations Manager to come up with the way to honor our very special friend.

Their newest feature in the park is a Pinetum (Pi-ne-tum) located in the grassy field to the left of their main entrance.  This area will be a collection of over 100 conifers from many different species (including many unique examples) and will eventually have a walking path, landscape features, large rocks and informational signage.  The project has been led by a park volunteer and they would love to incorporate one of these fantastic pinecone sculptures made by Floyd Elzinga ( see link below) .  Pinecones represent the delicate beauty of life and its potential, a small seed growing into a magnificent tree.

In his honor and to memorialize him we are raising money to buy one of these very large sculptures, install it within the Pinetum, and dedicate it in Charles memory. A plaque would be incorporated with the sculpture with the wording “May the seeds of your kindness grow on through those who loved you.” Our plan, once the financial goal is met, is to install the sculpture in the spring or summer of this year, and have a simple dedication ceremony that would be open to everyone and anyone!

Thank you for helping us to build this memorial tribute to him, to continue his legacy of kindness and remember what an incredible spirit he had and all the wonderful memories we shared with him throughout the years. Please SHARE this to connect with those that loved him!
