Years ago, I was in a metal band with Charley. Back then he was stocky and vibrant. I always had so much respect for him. Working construction full time, playing drums 3 nights a week, all while being an amazing father and husband. His dream was to “make it” in music. He passed on a real opportunity in favor of his family. That’s a real man! I see Charley now, a shell of the physical man he once was and my heart bleeds for him and his family’s struggle.
After a series of misdiagnosis, and medical bills far acceding what the normal family can endure, Charley was diagnosed with an immune deficiency disorder after a fugal infection ravaged his body three years ago.
Today, Charley is barely able to walk or function let alone work. Their sole income is Heather’s $12-hour job. His medical bills are $10,000 a month. With insurance, it’s $5000 a month. Obviously, they can’t afford that. So, Heather has to cut her hours in order to have Medicaid kick in. But, with limited hours, they can’t afford to pay the bills.
They have fallen through the cracks of our dysfunctional healthcare system. They have literally gotten to the point where Charley has asked to die in order to spare his family the struggle.
I sincerely beg for any donation you can give. I have started this GoFundMe off by giving all I can afford. Please join me in helping a good man, father, husband, human, and fellow metal head who will never sit behind his kit again, but with your help, may be able to see his son grow up.
