Update #2: Thanks again to all who have contributed! Having exceeded the $15,000 required for 20-year sponsorship of a tree/bench, we are plan to give remaining donations to JJ's family, so that they can determine how best to use them in her memory. In doing so, we may offer ideas (e.g., establishing a grant in her name at MIT) - please feel free to make recommendations, and they can be shared with her family. Again, sincerely touching to see the number of people that JJ's influence spread to :)

Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far. It really is a testament to the depth and breadth of JJ's relationships that the fundraising goal was eclipsed so quickly.
The Esplanade Association allows for doubling the contribution to double the time of sponsorship (from 10 to 20 years), so funds above the $7,500 goal can be used towards extending the sponsorship to 20 years.

JJ posted the above photo on social media, reflecting on the beautiful views on her morning run commute: "I run by this spot on my commute to work each morning. Every day, I find myself asking, is this real life? #smallthings #smelltheroses"
To honor JJ's incredible legacy (which you can read about here), we would like to sponsor a bench and/or tree on the Esplanade in her name. 10 year sponsorship requires a contribution of $2,500 for a tree and $5,000 for a bench, both of which have the option for renewal.
JJ would run along the Charles River Esplanade every morning en route to and from her office in Cambridgeside. She admired the natural beauty and stunning views of MIT that the Esplanade offers. She would run three miles each way with a full backpack, a demonstration of her unique determination and desire to take advantage of every moment of every day. Even beyond the Esplanade, you could find JJ running - running toward new challenges, running toward self-development goals, and running towards opportunities to shape the lives of those around her. JJ's determination, boundless energy, and excitement for life will continue to inspire each of us. She will forever encourage us to run toward our wildest dreams.
