There's nothing worse in the world, then to see someone who’s always been so strong brought to tears, as he has cried out for his pain to end. I think it would be fair to say that watching someone you deeply love suffer so terribly is worse than any suffering that you have/will endure within your lifetime. It’s an uncontrollable sadness that lingers within you, a desire to take upon their pain, and a sense of hopelessness.

Due to diabetes my papa had surgery in hopes that he would be able to keep his leg. This surgery almost ended tragically when he developed a severe infection that landed him in the ICU. Miraculously my Papa healed from the infection but he never regained adequate blood flow in his leg, which means that he was more susceptible to infections and that it took his foot much longer to heal.

My Nanny has been not only his wife, but also his nurse. She has monitored his foot, made sure to put antibiotic cream on it everyday, moisturized it, made sure that his shoes didn’t rub his foot, and administer medication; she has done everything to prevent him from losing his leg but despite her best efforts it has been in vain.

Today both the Doctor (who’s an amazing physician) and Papa agreed that it was time to remove the leg due to the excruciating pain that he is under. This will be an extended hospital stay that will require rehabilitation, which means he may be in the hospital for at least a month.

My grandparents are on a fixed income and most of their money goes towards my Papa’s medication and doctor's appointments. My Mother and I opened a joint account that we both contribute towards in order to ensure that my grandparents have food and/or any other needs. My aunts, uncles and cousins contribute as much as they can as well with donations of food and money, but this time I know that what we have will not be enough financially.

My grandfather despite his pain has remained in good spirits, you can often see him sitting on his rocking chair singing and praying to God. He loves to have visitors and for me and my mom to take him somewhere. He loves to “pick” (tease) me and he always makes me laugh. My Papa is the closest thing I have to a father and he’s always been.

We are proud people, we take care of our own so please understand how hard it is for us to ask for help, so we humbly ask for any monetary contributions that you can spare and prayers that my Grandfather will stay in high spirits and heal quickly from this procedure.

We know that the Lord will always supply and we are trusting in Him.

Sincerely,
