Help Charlene Shreve Beat Cancer

If you have had the pleasure of meeting Char, then you already know what a wonderful soul she is. For those of you that don't know her, this selfless woman is always there when you need her and always has a positive outlook on life. It is unfathomable to think that such a kind and compassionate person should have to endure such a difficult challenge such as breast cancer.

I'm Katrina, and this amazing woman is my mom. She is the kind of person that wouldn't want you to know that she has cancer, only because she doesn't want you to feel bad or worry.  She is the type of woman that has always put her needs last, and now she needs our help to put her health first.

My mom's diagnosis started out as a minor level breast cancer, and everything was looking good until they found a really aggressive genetic marker that has changed the intensity of her treatment plan. Now she has to receive intravenous chemotherapy, the cost of which is astronomical. Even with her insurance, her medical expenses have skyrocketed. Worrying about how to pay for the necessary medical care should be the last thing a person battling a life-threatening disease should have to face.

Most of you know my mom from her part-time job down at the local Superette. She is retired but loved having this job so that she could socialize with everyone. Now because of her insurance coverage, she gets more benefits if she is unemployed. Which means not only does she have to find a way to pay for this outrageous healthcare, but now she also can't work even if she could/wanted to.

I've set the goal of her campaign for just enough to cover the cost of the chemo, plus the 2.9% that gofundme takes for their cut. That's right, each injection is $1,100 and she needs one once per week for a year, for a grand total of $52,800. That's just her chemo. That amount doesn't even cover other healthcare and living expenses. She is on Social Security, so you can imagine that her part-time job was also necessary.

I am personally eternally grateful for all of the incredible people that surround my mom, and am comforted by the fact that she has such an amazing support system. I know I can speak for her when I say that she is also beyond humbled and immaculately grateful for all of your help! We will get through this, she is a survivor. We will get through this together, because when you replace "i" with "we" illness becomes wellness. We can't thank you enough for getting through this together with us!
