My wife Charity has been recently having severe symptoms and expected to have Urea Cycle Disorder. Urea Cycle Disorder is a genetic disorder caused by a deficiency of one of the enzymes in the urea cycle. The urea cycle is responsible for removing ammonia from the blood stream.
This all started on January 12th. My wife Charity was unable to eat a meal without being in extreme abdominal pain. Feeling nauseous and in pain i received a message that she needed to be taken to the ER.
At the ER we found her gallbladder was full of gallstones, to the point where it needed to be removed. (Pictures available upon request). After the gallbladder was removed we thought she was home free. Able to relax and eat again. We quickly found that was not the case.
On January 16th my wife my wife texted me and said "I'm debating calling an ambulance... I think surgery is sending my body into shock... I'm not sure if I can last much longer..." I told her to call an ambulance, and i rushed home from work.
The best way I can describe how i found my wife was that she was in a coma, but awake. She was sitting on our sofa staring at the wall. Unable to speak, blink, move, or speak. After being in the hospital for 2 days they found out her ammonia levels were 3 times higher then any persons ever should be. She almost died because of this attack. Medicine was given to her (Lactulose) to help rid her body of the ammonia. She was in the hospital for about 5 days in total.
During her stay in the hospital my wife Charity told the doctors how the ammonia levels caused her to hallucinate, which then caused the doctors to alert Child Protective Services. Now my wife is required to have someone with her at all times while watching the kids, in order to keep both her and our 2 children safe at all times.
Thankfully we do have some insurance but it will not cover all the medical or family expenses that will be encumber us during this difficult life adjustment. Not only will my wife need to see an endocrinologist she will also have to see a metabolic specialst and change her diet in order to get this under control. We also need to pay a hefty amount of medical bills, finding out that one of the hospitals does not accept our insurance, and for the ongoing in house support for my wife and our kids.
Lastly, on top of all this, we also found that Charity has a lump in her thyroid, and we are hoping and praying that it is benign since thyroid cancer runs on her side of the family.
Today we are asking for your help as my wife Charity and our children undergo a serious life change. By reaching out to all our friends and loved ones we are hoping that everyone can come together to ease this hardship that our family is enduring. Any amount you can give is gratefully appreciated and will make a difference to help carry this family through this scary time. Thank you in advance for your amazing generosity, love and healing prayers that mean the world to Charity, our children, and myself. We love you all!!
