The Charis Project: Live It Out
In 2015, I (Stephynia) was sitting at my keyboard and I heard the line “somebody love me”. Immediately I knew that this was the cry of the heart of a child. After God gave me the full song, I knew that it had something to do with a foster community. I heard God say I was supposed to record the song with my brother. I thought maybe God wanted to use it for a fund raiser for a foster organization or adoption agency, but I never found a place for it.

In spring 2016, I again tried to do something with the song, but nothing seemed to work out. Again it got put on the back burner because of work and school. Fast forward to late 2016, God told me I was supposed to record an album. I had no idea where to start or what to do, so I kept it to myself, but God began pouring songs into my heart faster than they had ever come before.

We became friends with a couple from the church we were attending who have several adopted children. We began talking and discussing whether she and her husband were supposed to adopt any other children. They had been praying about a particular child who ending up going to another couple, but in their hearts they believed they were supposed to open their home to another child.

In February, they received a call asking them if they would take a three day old little girl who was taken into DSS custody at birth. I received a text asking us to pray for wisdom. Shortly afterwards a received another text saying they had agreed to take her. They were even allowed to name her. Baby Charis became a part of their family and a part of our story, but we didn’t know that yet.

A few days after she came home from the hospital we were honored to be asked to come and pray over her.

The next morning while having a conversation about Charis, I heard God say “that song is for Charis”. I knew immediately which song he meant. Before I could tell anyone, I again heard Him say, “and the name of your album is The Charis Project : Live it out and it is to fund The Charis Foundation”. I was so overwhelmed that I just cried.

Later that day I shared what I heard with my husband. I told him I had no idea what the Charis Foundation was except I knew it had to be about foster children. He got tears in his eyes as he shared the vision God had been speaking to his heart about building foster a community… And the Charis Children’s Foundation was born.

The vision for Charis Children's Foundation is very fluid. We know that it will change and grow as we do, but the heart to provide long term Christian homes for foster children sharing the love of Jesus and the hope of the Gospel will always be our mission.

We beleive the burden to provide housing for these children lies with the church body, not the government.  There are currently aroud 300,000 protestant churches in teh US today. We have approximately 400,000 foster kids in the US.  If there was one family in each church willing to take two children, then the problem would be solved.

In order to start a new foster community, we first have to be providing services to the community for six months. Then we will apply for credentailing through COA. After we have been credentialed for three years we can apply for license in NC to open a foster community. It is a long necessary process to ensure that our organizational structure is stable and ready to provide for the physical, emotional, spiritual and financial needs fo the precious children God will place in our care.

The fundraising goal will be done in phases. Phase one is a $500,000 goal which will be used to open the Charis Community Health and Healing Center providing medical, socail support, and addiction recovery services. This will provide the platform by which we can provide the services to the community allowing us to apply for credentialing.

We are a faith baded non profit 501c3. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

We immediately need funding to  to begin remodeling of an existing property we are donating to Charis Children's Foundation for the Charis Community Health and Healing Center, which will be the main headquarters and the beginning clinic and social support services center.

We appreciate all donations, big or small. We believe it is Gods vision to create a scalable model that any community can use to develop foster housing.
