Charis' journey

On the 12th Feb 2018 Charis was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of 14. Charis started getting headaches and tiredness for quite a few months that we presumed was part of being a teenager. This then progressed to being sick and not being able to hold any food or water down. After being sent to our local hospital they then found that after numerous tests that charis had a large tumour on her brain and needed to be sent to Addenbrookes hospital immediately as they specialise in paediatric brain tumours.  3 days later charis had the tumour removed in a 5 hour operation. However 2 weeks later her parents were given the devastating  news that the tumour was cancerous (Ependymoma grade 2)   The next stage of treatment means she requires proton beam therapy. This is being funded by the NHS as the treatment is only available in Jacksonville. They have paid for accommodation and flights but that's without living costs.  They are hoping to raise a little bit of money to help fund their day to day living expenses, food and petrol to and from proton centre and the children's hospital. The bills here at home in the UK and the food shopping for my brother and I. Most importantly we would like to give Charis some treats as she needs cheering up. The treatment is every day apart from weekends. This causes hair loss, that may be permanent, nausea, tiredness, stomach upsets and other side effects that may not appear until after we get home. So enjoying days out at weekends with her family will make this horrendous time a little bit more enjoyable. Every little helps and we would be greatful for anything that you could spare. Thankyou x
