Changing the world - One man at a time.

I am an average person. I don't volunteer as I should. I'm ashamed to say that I manage to be fairly oblivious to many of the horrible things that go on in our world. I am an extremely blessed woman, and not nearly as thankful as I should be.
My husband and I recently purchased a large bundle of goods, wholesale from a retail store closing due to COVID. We purchased these items with the intention to resale, to make some extra income which is something we do quite often. Yesterday as I looked at my extra bedroom filled with toothpaste, lotion, vaseline, toothbrushes, peroxide, socks, pants, shirts, and sooooo many other items - something told me to go uptown and give it all to the homeless. It was an overwhelming gut instinct, so thats exactly what we did. We loaded up the bed of the truck, went and bought 40 burgers from burger king and stood out by all the tents around the homeless shelter in Charlotte giving out clothes, food, and toiletries.
I had no idea how life changing 2 hours of my Sunday could be. I met a man ned Cortez. He and his wife have been homeless for around 2 years. This man was once am App State football legend, and a licensed social worker. He was the prime example of a man living the American dream and losing it all. I won't go into many details of his story, because it is his story and not mine to tell.
Now, I know that helping one man does not change the world, but I believe that if everyone attempted to help one fellow neighbor there would certainly be impact! This is what I am going to do, with or without your help. I want to put Cortez and his wife in an extended stay room for 2-3 months (whatever can be afforded). My husband and I will make sure they have all their needed toiletries, clothing, and food. We will make sure they are located closely to us so that we can provide transportation or set them up with bus passes to make sure they can get around. I will work with them on résumés and interview attire and skills, and help them with applying for GOOD employment. If and when the time comes that they are ready we will help them get into a permanent residence and find permanent means of transportation.
We are not handing them any money, but rather helping them overcome the hurdles the have up against them. I am committed to doing this no matter what but with your help it would help eliminate the financial strain on my family in trying to help someone else.
This is important, these people matter, and they deserve it!
