Change Georgia Microblading Laws

Donation protected
Money raised through this account will be used to pay a lobbyist to register on our behalf (Georgia Microblading Artist) to help move the requested change through the House of Representatives and Senate of the State of Georgia. His normal fee is 16k But is willing to do this for us for 4K and is willing to take 1k to get started. I will have to sign the engagement letter and ultimately I will be responsible for this fee. I pray that you guys will do anything possible to help me come up with the 4K needed. Retaining the lobbyist will NOT guarentee we will be successful but greatly increases our chances of getting this law changed. He will work with us, register as our lobbyist, find a sponsor for the change and write the law/change/ admendment. Below is a little background for your review. The status of our efforts will be posted as received on the Facebook Group “Georgia Microblading Artist”.

In October 2017 the attorney for DPH (Department of Public Health) advised the Enviromental Health Department of Georgia TO NOT ISSUE ANY PERMITS FOR MICROBLADING. I unfortunately was advised of this while applying for my permit. DPH EH has decided that microblading will fall under Tattoo and Body Art guidelines for 2018 officially.
Because of an existing law O.C.G.A.16-12-5(b), "it shall be unlawful for any person to perform permanent tattooing, piercing, or cosmetic micropigmentation procedures within any area within one inch of the nearest part of the eye socket unless performed by a physician, licensed osteopath, or a technician acting under the direct supervision of a physician or licensed osteopath". This makes what we do a criminal offense if not done under a doctors supervision in a doctors office.
This is a huge concern to all of us who are cosmetic permanent makeup artist wanting to practice in Georgia. Especially those of us who provide microblading services. Even if you have been permitted prior to this decision from the DPH Attorney Sid Barrett, this has a negative impact for your livelihood and business. It arguablely makes the service you provide to your clients illegal. If you were able to obtain insurance and have a claim, a state law prohibiting your actions could have negative consequences for your claim. Many insurance companies have stated they will be canceling policies for those who are not working under medical supervision in Georgia.
It was suggested that we mobilize and work together to have an amendment added to this code section to EXEMPT Microblading Artist. The only way to do this is have a State Representative and or a State Senator sponsor this amendment.
I would ask that we work together as a unit to get this accomplished during the next legislative session, January 2018 thru March 2018. I am willing to work for us all to get this law changed to exempt Microblading. Please make sure that your coworkers and fellow artist are aware of this page and our mission.
Thank you and we look forward to working with our fellow artist to legalize our services in Georgia.
