This is my 2 ½ year old nephews story

On June 2nd we learned Chance had a large brain tumor.  The entire tumor was successfully removed on June 8th.  They went home from the hospital on June 15th with their active child.

Unfortunately, we learned on June 21st that the tumor was cancerous.  Chance has ependymoma.  The current treatment plan is chemotherapy over the next four months followed by 2 months of radiation treatments and another 6 months of outpatient chemotherapy.

The first four months of chemotherapy will be intense and Chance will be hospitalized for 3-4 days each of the first two weeks of the  four monthly cycles (so, 8 hospitalizations for chemo for a total of 24-32 days).  They are hoping to have most of these hospitalizations over weekends (hopefully to be able to save some of Meagan's FMLA time for the radiation treatments).

When chemo is finished, he will go to Mayo for proton beam radiation therapy (they are sticking with Children's in Minneapolis for Chance's overall treatment and chemo).  The radiation treatment is outpatient but will be 4 or 5 days each week for six weeks.  There is a two week break in there somewhere.  Chance will need to be anesthetized for each treatment.  Radiation therapy is a scary prospect for anyone but particularly for a young child whose brain is still developing.  Proton beam radiation allows for the radiation to be really concentrated to where it needs to be thus reducing the amount of good cells that are killed.  It is great that Mayo has this technology - the next closest place is Chicago.

After all of that, they will start six monthly cycles of out-patient chemotherapy.  Then they will have weekly clinic visits but Chance will not have any planned hospitalizations.

As you can see he and his parents have a long year ahead of them. This go fund me site is being set up to help Chance's parents Kelly and Meagan with the added expenses, and for the time's when the paychecks are few as they spend time and energy being with Chance during this journey.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, along with lot's of prayers that at the end of this year this will be only a memory!!
