Champ's Fund
My boy Champion's story is heartbreaking, so if you are for the faint of heart....heed the warning!
Champ (previously known as 'Tommy') was found by animal control with circular shaped burns all over his body, wounded, tortured and dragging a shattered front right leg. The burns appeared to be from a cigar or cigarette lighter.
They described him as sweet and submissive, all you have to do is look into his eyes and you’ll understand.
After being transferred to a hospital in N.C., doctors discovered more....
he was heart worm positive and had an upper respiratory infection.
They were not able to save his leg from the fracture and eventually had to be amputated. Months of love, care and treatment, Champ recovered.
His spirit tortured, but not broken.
After his story went public, the rescue received over 100 emails asking to adopt him! But as the Universe has plans we know nothing about, I guess no one filled out an application because the second I said I wanted him I was sent the adoption application. While super excited to take him home, also very nervous because I didn’t know how he would adjust after so much trauma in his short life.
Let’s just say, as soon as he sat on the couch he knew he was home. He adjusted very well and got along great with my cats. However, with time, I noticed behaviors that were concerning. He lunges for treat, he is possessive of his toys and will not release them once he has a hold of them...but the most concerning, his reaction to other dogs. He wimpers if he sees one, and barks uncontrollably and aggressively.
While doing research on treatment, I took him to a trainer and after a thorough evaluation, the results were in. His barks were coming from deep in his gut and he is insecure around other dogs, I would guess that missing a front leg must add to his anxiety. His reaction gives me the impression he may have been involved in dog fighting as he never acts this way around people or my cats.
My heart aches seeing him get so agitated when he sees other dogs, & it hurts even more to see the looks on people’s faces...especially when I know what a big ol mush ball he is!
So, you see, I am asking for your help. Many have followed Champ's story and know how much he needs a new start. I can supply him with a loving home, he already has a big family that adores him yet our work with him is not done. Now, we need to send him to a great program that will help him work on his confidence, his aggression towards other dogs and give him the quality of life he deserves! ALL your donations will go towards Champs training and future plans for a prosthetic to ease his anxiety.....YOU can be part of his healing process.
I ask you PLEASE consider donating to his cause and help Champ lead a better non-agressive life.
He is a survivor, and like his name...a Champion!
