This GoFundMe account will help Leoni Wells, a hard-working single mom, and her 5 children, who lost almost every item in their home due to an electrical fire on Chamberlayne Ave. in Richmond, VA, on 12/3/20. During this holiday season that is filled with joy for so many, Leoni and her children are having to start over with everything from a new place to live to basic essentials for their daily lives.
Leoni has been working with the Red Cross and has paid housing until December 15. This GoFundMe account will be used to pay for new housing after December 15, as well as purchase essentials (everything from clothing, shoes, food, new dishes, basic furniture, etc) for her and her children; ages 7, 10, 13, 15 and 17. She has an old minivan with 300,000+ miles that is barely hanging on, so she will also need a new car soon. On top of this, we would love to add some Christmas cheer by being able to purchase some decorations and perhaps some small gift items.
We are gratefully collecting funds immediately and will do so until further notice. Leoni’s needs are so great right now that she will be able to use every dollar that is raised on her behalf.
Our neighborhood was introduced to Leoni and family in November when we were able to help her with Thanksgiving expenses. After seeing her happiness with what was donated form Thanksgiving, many of us wanted to follow up with support for Christmas. Just as we were planning this, the electrical fire happened and our efforts were put on hold. I know that if we contribute as a group (no amount is too small!), we can help Leoni beyond measure.
