Chadd’s Rally

6/10 Chadd was taken to the emergency room in lake Charles for numbness in his right side. Scans showed a mass on his brain and two in his lungs. A biopsy of the mass on his lung was taken. Preliminary result of the biopsy was melanoma. During the 3 days In LMCH his right side of his body was diminishing and becoming weaker. LCMH released him as a patient and sent him home Wednesday to await for final result of biopsy. The doctors advised us there was no need to wait for results while staying in hospital. We began the process of becoming a patient of MD Anderson upon being released. By Friday afternoon, chadds right side of his body was completely diminished. He was sleeping a lot and began vomiting. I felt something was wrong. I made the decision to drive two hours to MD Anderson ER to seek medical attention. We arrived at MD Anderson ER Friday night at 8 PM. Another MRI was done immediately upon arrival, and we learned the mass on his brain was bleeding. His brain was swelling rapidly. MD Anderson performed emergency surgery Saturday morning at 7:45 AM to remove the mass and stop the bleeding to prevent any further permanent damage that was happening at an extremely rapid pace. We will not know the results of the biopsy taken from the mass of his brain for 4-5 business days. He will begin inpatient rehabilitation while we remain in MD Anderson until further notice. He will undergo radiation to rid the spreading of melanoma in his brain caused by the bleeding when he is recovered from his cranial surgery. This week, we will meet the melanoma team of oncologists that are making a plan of action to treat the spreading of melanoma throughout his body.
