Land for Cultural Healing

Who I am and where I'm from: My name is Dr Noritta Morseu-Diop. My Ancestral connections extend from Aboriginal Australia to the Kulkalgal Nation and to the Dauareb Clan of the Meriam Nation. I have lived in Brisbane for nearly 40 years and am a part of the Brisbane Black Community. I also worked as a grassroots social worker for 30 years in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities throughout Queensland in the areas of grief, loss, trauma, mental health, criminal justice, social, cultural, emotional and environmental health and well-being and community development.

What we are raising money for: We know that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are dealing with intergenerational trauma, loss and grief from the impact of colonization, including past government policies. There is an urgent need to create socially, emotionally, and culturally safe places and spaces to address Indigenous disadvantage and to close the gap for First Nations People by First Nations People.

We have purchased a small piece of land to build a Wellness Place. We aim to grow a Permaculture Food Forest and an Organic Community Vegetable Garden with Bush Medicines and Bush Tucker plants and herbs. We have the support of our First Nations Elders, Healers, Leaders and grassroots community members.

We aim to raise $50,000 to purchase the necessary resources and the infrastructure to build our Wellness Place, so if you're looking for a direct way to support our Wellness initiative, please chip in! Our land and Mother Earth mean everything to us, and every dollar we raise will assist in creating a culturally safe place for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We welcome others to join us and walk with us on this unique journey.

What will happen on this land:
This stunning 5-acre block is the ideal natural environment for peace, serenity, quietness, and harmony for healing and restoration for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and for the wider community. Our aim is to create a place of caring and sharing with others who wish to walk with us in a spirit of unity, peace, compassion, and harmony & based on the philosophy of 'Do no Harm' ...

You can see from the pictures the beautiful landscape and potential of the land. We aim to preserve its cultural landscape and retain culturally significant trees. We will clean up the land through weed removal and planting more native species to increase the natural biodiversity of this beautiful country. We will build fences to keep wild animals out to protect our organic community garden, food forest and bush foods. Our community garden and fruit trees will support our sustainable living initiatives.

In addition, our goal is to create a trauma-informed & culturally safe space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and others who wish to walk with us in a spirit of reconciliation, truth and peace.

How the money will be used:
The $50,000 will be used for initial infrastructure on the land, such as the essential clean-up work, weed removal and restoration of the native biodiversity, installation of water tanks, fencing, building a Cultural Wellness / Yarning Place, resources for solar/ renewable energy and sustainable living initiatives etc.

Thank you immensely for your kindness and generous contribution to our Wellness Project. Your support is respectfully and gratefully appreciated; THANK YOU!
