Currently, 77% of DC Public School (DCPS) students are economically disadvantage with 60% of them being African-American. Therefore, the foundation was founded in October 2017 to provide 22 DCPS students an opportunity to attend an all-expense paid college tour. Through sponsors and private donors, I raised $10,000 in 30 days. This effort connected students with different colleges, careers, locations, and students. Because of the tour's impact, students now want to attend colleges outside of the DMV, network with others, and empower their classmates to seek their college education.
However, our goal is to double the amount of students apart of the foundation by inviting students from Baltimore and surrounding areas. Baltimore City Public Schools is the fourth-largest school district in Maryland, yet 55% of students are identified as low income. As a result, only 40% of its graduates enroll in post-secondary education. With your support, we can expose more students to the college experience to increase their chances of obtaining a post-secondary education. At 28 years old, it is my mission to help students secure admission into higher education and become financially free!
The College Gurl Foundation hopes that we can count on your support to help make DMV students educational goals a reality. For your review, I have attached video from last year's college tour, more information about CGF, and video of our scholarship luncheon, which provided 9 DCPS seniors book scholarships this past June.
