• So what’ happened....
Hi, my name is Dean. I’m 17 years old and I’m in my last year of high school. At the same time I am also in my first year of college because of a program my high school offered. It allowed me to take real college classes and high school classes at the same time. I also had friends there, so transferring to a new school my last year wouldn’t be so stressful for me. It sounded like a good plan, I could graduate and at the same time get my associates degree. It was all free (minus the college books) as long as I passed with “a C or above”.
So I applied and was set on going there. Eventually I got my acceptance letter! Then, the pandemic came along with quarantine. We were told it would only be for a short period of time and I only had to worry about having classes online for the rest of my junior year. While waiting to go back, the whole summer passed by, then came fall and the start of the new school year. I had my first day of high school as a senior online.
I was stressed (still am) and became mentally drained quickly over the semester. I have had problems with my depression, but it has honestly never been this bad. Staying at home almost everyday, being in a new school, having no friends, and being alone with my own thoughts was lethal for me. The Pandemic also affected my parents work hours, so I barely see them because they try to work overtime. I couldn’t really take care of my brother or do my chores around the house. I shut down for a few days at a time and could barely do my school work without dreading my own existence. I survived all these years because I managed to distract myself everyday . I couldn’t do it anymore.
The time for College final exams came along, and luckily for me, I passed both of them. However, my overall grades were not looking very good. I knew I was going to fail one class, but really set me off was the fact I “failed” a class with a C-. Now I owe $950 to the college.
The Cashier for my college told me I was not eligible for any aid since I am a High School student. I tried looking for a job online, or maybe even selling art online, but I knew that I wouldn’t get enough money in time to pay it off. My parents can’t even help me because they are already struggling to pay bills. So that’s why I made this GoFundMe. I know there are kind people out there who will donate or maybe even share this.
• If you donate...
All the money will go straight to paying these classes off. Any additional donations people want to make can help me afford college textbooks or even tuition for the University I plan to go to next year. One of my family members will be withdrawing all the money since I’m underage and will ensure the money will be used for college.
