TEAM DERICK

Derick McCauley was first diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma at the young age of 21 in 2008. He underwent surgery to remove a mass on the back of his leg. For the past 7 years he has been cancer free and doing great.

At the beginning of July 2014 Derick was having some pain in his shoulder and went to the ER to have it checked. The ER took a chest X-Ray and discovered he had a torn rotary cuff. They gave him medication and asked him to follow up with his physician. At his follow up appointment his physician had some concerns about a mass on his lung and sent him to his oncologist.

After a CT scan, a PET scan, and an MRI the doctors informed him his Melanoma was back. The cancer is not only in his lungs, but also his stomach, muscles, liver, under his skin, and he has lesions on his brain. After being told the cancer was not curable by his physicians in Oklahoma City he made arrangements to go to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.

Derick has always kept a positive attitude and as he put it, “I’ll fight the fight, I’ll be okay. Just gotta do what we gotta do.” He has faced everything life has put in front of him with unimaginable strength. He is an inspiration to those around him. When he became a father in June 2014 he said, “Man it’s crazy, the first sight of her was mind blowing. So unreal. She’s got me. I’m stunned, literally.” Derick is not only an amazing father, but also an amazing husband, son, grandson, nephew, and friend.

MD Anderson gave him hope by saying they are going to try a few different treatment plans to get this cured! He is getting immune therapy treatments, mutated cell gene pill treatment, and radiation treatment. We have set up this donation fund to help Derick and his family with expenses. The McCauley family would like to thank you in advance for your support and prayers!
