CES Danceworks Performance

My name is Charles Scheland, and I'm a contemporary dance artist in New York City. This past February, I created a solo, called "Taylor" for Spoke the Hub's SOLO Fancy Competition, which won the contest, and awarded me a studio residency and weekend of my own work produced in their space in Park Slope, Brooklyn. With the COVID19 pandemic, it is obviously not safe to have audiences in theaters or even big casts of dancers rehearsing, but both I and Spoke the Hub's team wanted to push forward to create a virtual evening of dance. In a time of isolation and darkness, art helps us push through and remind us why we keep living. We are going to produce a virtual concert for you to view from the comfort of your home, safely.

We're going ahead with our virtual performance, and I'm working on curating a diverse program of my work, both old and newly created for this event, to help us all momentarily escape our homes and imagine witnessing live performance. But I need your help to do it. Most dancers are laid off from regular artistic work and barely scraping by finding temporary jobs, just to make rent. I know the artists I want to work with, and I want to pay them. They're all professional dancers and wonderful artists who will help transport you for an evening. I'm doing everything I can to pay them, but I too was furloughed due to COVID19. The funds raised here will go directly to paying the artists for their time and effort in giving you a safe viewing experience.

By supporting this campaign, you will be supporting the dancers and artists I am working with to create this virtual evening. The proceeds raised will go to the artists, and the more money we can raise, the more we will end up giving to these artists. I have set an initial goal of $3,000, but I would like to pass it and raise even more if we can. The more money we can raise, the more we can compensate and support these artists the better. I can't even get close to paying these dancers the amount of money they deserve, but with your help, we can get closer. Please consider joining me in supporting these dancers.

Here is our website, where you can find out everything you want to about my choreography and the name we perform under, CES Danceworks. We haven't set a final program for the evening yet, but expect to see some of the works I've created in the past, including an excerpt of "Three Years Suite" and "Taylor" which is the solo that started this whole project. I will also be premiering new work, created safely during COVID19 at Spoke the Hub's special space in Brooklyn. If you would like to learn more about me, you can find me at my own website  as well.

All studio and creative time during production will follow the most up to date COVID19 safety guidelines. We won't be making work with huge casts; I'm re-evaluating and re-shaping a program that is safe for dancers and crew, but still is uplifting and inspiring.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me and my dancers,
Charles Scheland
