Tole’s Recovery After Surgery

Hello everyone, I recently had my life saving surgery on Monday, January 21st, 2019.
Thank you to all that donated, shared my page and made it possible for me to have this surgery. Thank you to Dr. Wong, Dr. Fritz and the amazing Nursing team Staff members at Southeast Veterinary Neurology and those who also made this surgery possible and took excellent care of me for the first few days. Now I am under strict cage rest, taking several medications with orthopedic bandages as I recover for the next 6 to 8 weeks. My sutures will be removed in 14 days. I will continue to have bandage removal for the next couple of weeks as I recover and start to walk again which will cost some money. Any donations are more than appreciated!
MY STORY:
Hello my name is Tolete but my family and friends call me Tole. This is my story and how I went from being a playful, smart, energetic, funny, LOVING Chihuahua to bedridden and currently fighting for my life as I wait for Surgery.
I am one year old and arrived to my parents home to help fill their lives with love and joy, as they start to settle down into their retirement years.
On Thursday January 3rd I injured myself while playing and that was the last time I walked, even eating seems difficult now. I am paralyzed from my neck down and need assistance with feedings.
Currently I am under the care of Dr. Wong a Veterinary Neurologist and was recently diagnosed with Atlantoaxial Instability. I was born with an uncommon malformation in my first and second cervical vertebra. This condition produces abnormal bending between the cervical vertebras, which causes compression of the spinal cord. I need a very delicate surgery to HELP save my life. The surgery will relieve the pressure on the spinal cord and permanently stabilize the joint. Dr. Wong says I should recover 95% or more with this surgery.
My family cries for me everyday. I have family members taking turns during the day and night to help feed me, give me my medications and make sure I use the restroom and I am feeling comfortable. Seeing my parents suffer breaks my heart and only surgery can save me. Giving up on me is not an option. Unfortunately they don’t have the funds for this surgery. They created this page to help me and are humbly asking for any donations to help reach the cost of surgery $9500.
My neurologist is now using conservative management as I wait for my surgery. I am on strict cage rest, a neck brace that needs to be changed and monitored by the veterinarian frequently, steroids and pain medications to make me comfortable.

Hola, mi nombre es Tolete, pero mi familia y mis amigos me llaman Tole. Esta es mi historia y cómo pasé de ser un Chihuahua juguetón, inteligente, enérgico, divertido, y muy CARIÑOSO a estar paralizado y en estos momentos luchando por mi vida mientras espero una cirugía.
Tengo un año de edad y llegué a casa de mis padres para ayudarles a llenar sus vidas con amor y alegría, mientras comienzan a establecerse en sus años de jubilación.
El jueves 3 de enero me lastimé mientras jugaba y esa fue la última vez que caminé, incluso el comer me parece difícil. Estoy paralizado de mi cuello hacia abajo y necesito ayuda con las alimentaciones.
Actualmente estoy bajo el cuidado del Dr. Wong, un neurólogo veterinario y recientemente me diagnosticaron con inestabilidad atlantoaxial. Nací con una malformación poco común en mi primera y segunda vértebra cervical. Esta condición produce una flexión anormal entre las vértebras cervicales, lo que provoca la compresión de la médula espinal. Necesito una cirugía muy delicada para ayudar a salvar mi vida. La cirugía aliviará la presión sobre la médula espinal y estabilizará permanentemente la articulación. El Dr. Wong dice que debería recuperarme en un 95% o más con esta cirugía.
Mi familia llora por mí todos los días.
