Ceri's Medical Fund

Ceri Jones is 21 years old, she was diagnosed in November with a rare cancer called Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma.  This type of Cancer arises within secretory glands and is most commonly the major and minor salivary glands of the head and neck. There appears to be no effective chemotherapy for metastatic and/or unresectable ACC. In March 2017, Ceri underwent a major 36 hour operation which consisted of Ceri's left eye being removed, her upper left jaw and upper left facial bones to be replaced with titanium metal, and her face to be reconstructed. As the Cancer was in the advanced stage and had spread to her left lymph node and behind the left eye, and was in the top left hand pallet in her mouth. As a result of this Ceri had to have her muscle and skin on her right thigh, grafted into her top pallet in her mouth. Although the tumour was removed Ceri still has residual cancer cells. Which is best treated with Proton Radiotherapy because standard Radiotherapy can break down her bone structure in her face, and cause major problems to her face and mouth in the near future. Ceri has now returned from Jacksonville Florida, from receiving Proton Radiotherapy and has seen her consultant in Liverpool. They are happy with her response from treatment. And scars and grafts look very good. They have discharged her to her original consultant in Sunderland royal hospital. And she now awaits scans and an operation on her teeth. Everybody's support Is helping ceri be so positive throughout all of this.
