My friend Sandy Serafini has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer, specifically estrogen positive, HER2 positive stage 2 breast cancer. A couple of months ago she started chemotherapy, which will be followed by surgery and then radiation treatment. As you can imagine, she has a long road ahead.
Sandy is self-employed and has three incredible boys; Jordan, Justin and Tony. All three will be in college in the Fall! Sandy continues to work on the days that she is able to, however this has resulted in a substantial loss of income. As you can imagine, treatment is followed by days of fatigue and nausea. With each treatment the symptoms are greater and last longer.
If you know Sandy then you know that she is an amazing woman, a great mother and caring friend. Her spirit is one that cannot be easily broken. Even with a diagnosis of breast cancer Sandy has “taken the bull by the horns”. She would not even allow her chemo to take her hair; she made the choice when she would be bald!
Sandy is the person who you can always count on. If you need her, no questions asked she is there. She has been a great support to me over the last couple of years when facing some difficult times. I’m sure each and every one of her friends would say the same.
