Centro Esperanza Academic Program

Who We Are
Centro Esperanza was founded in July of 2017 by a native from El Salvador, Luz Deras. Located in Texistepeque and Santa Elena, El Salvador, Centro Esperanza is an after school academic reinforcement program supporting local, under-resourced youth. Monday through Thursday, two teachers and a teaching assistant work with local students to build their basic reading and writing skills. Dedicated, individualized learning time for each student is achieved through small learning groups and innovative teaching techniques that allow students to truly experience language and learning. Centro Esperanza creates an engaging learning environment for parents as well. Monthly educational workshops for parents play an integral role the the program’s success.

Why We Do It
In El Salvador, only 50% of youth attend 7th-9th grades, and only half of these students go on to complete high school. Many children and adolescents face enormous obstacles associated with high rates of crime and gang violence in El Salvador. The educational system in El Salvador is struggling. There is a desperate need for after-school programs that will provide young students with reading and writing literacy to ensure them a better future. Centro Esperanza is an after-school program in El Salvador that is making a difference.

What Your Money Can Do
100% of funds collected through this campaign will go on to support two initiatives. Donations will help:
1. Cover the operational costs of Centro Esperanza for two full years, including the annual salary for a teacher and teaching assistant.
2. Cover materials and supplies for English classes and tutoring in the community of Santa Elena.

Who You Can Help
Centro Esperanza serves under-resourced families, but these families celebrate their simple way of life -- their energy and spirit are unforgettable. It is imperative to empower these children through the life-changing opportunities that education provides and end the cycle of generational poverty.

You Can Make A Difference
The communities of Texistepeque and Santa Elena hold a special place in Centro Esperanza’s Director, Luz Deras’ heart -- it is the birthplace of her family. Luz is concerned about the current political and social unrest, not only in El Salvador but in the world. El Salvador has had a violent past which continues but Centro Esperanza is committed to changing the future. Please join us… together we can keep hope alive and create a better future.
