Celebrating the Life of Sean Harney

Most people visiting this page will have their own special memories of Sean.
Sean didn't just touch people's lives; he made a profound impact on them and created memories enough to last forever. His recent passing has left a vast hole in so many hearts, and he will be hugely missed by his countless friends and loving family.
Sean heroically fought cancer for over 6 years, never once taking a backward step. His courage and positivity during this time were wondrous to see, and he continued to live life to the full as he fought with every fibre of his being. We should have expected nothing less from him.
Sean's passion for life was extraordinary. First and foremost his love for his loving wife, Gina, shone through. Married in Thailand in 2005, as soulmates, best friends and life partners, they shared a wonderful life together. Sean and Gina travelled extensively and loved immersing themselves in the culture of the many countries they travelled to and through over the years. They built a huge friendship group together, who's collective love, thoughts and prayers are with Gina at this time and onwards into the future.
Sean's passion for football was only surpassed by his contribution to the two clubs that he represented with such honour and pride over 4 decades.
At Bradford University FC Sean was always the most uncompromising player on the pitch. As Chairman he was the centrepiece of a club that prided itself on its competitiveness on the field and its camaraderie through the generations off it. Sean played an instrumental role in creating an environment unmatched at any other University Football Club, and in the process created incredible friendships and memories for so many grateful clubmates. His number 5 shirt was retired by the club earlier this year in recognition of his service and leadership.
At Chiswick Polytechnic FC, one of the oldest and largest clubs in the country, Sean provided 25 years of service, playing well into his 50s, and, inevitably becoming Chairman, on and off the field, and later President. He played a key role in significantly improving the club's commercial, financial and social position during his tenure. Sean will be deeply missed by his friends and clubmates at the Poly. Gina felt that Sean's passion for Polytechnic FC should be recognised by fundraising for the club in Sean's memory. We feel Sean would heartily approve.
Sean was also very career-focused. Fully committed to every role that he filled, Sean thrived in leadership positions within several leading technology companies and built long-lasting and deep friendships with his colleagues and customers alike.
Sean also had a huge passion for knowledge and self-development. An avid reader, his go-to book was a dog-eared Collins English dictionary that he kept by his bed; in order to ensure comprehensive defeat to any pretenders to his Scrabble throne or his Quizmaster title.
Sean's life was an amazing journey. Through his own drive, intellect, heart and sheer force of personality he touched many lives, and the world was a much better place for having Sean in it. Where Sean goes now, we will all follow one day, and if we are able to show half of Sean's positivity, fight and courage, then we can be proud of ourselves.
We should always smile when we think of Sean - which will be often - because we were incredibly lucky and privileged to have him in our lives.
