Celebrating the Life and Memory of Jai Rajagopal

Donation protected
The family and friends of Jai Rajagopal are raising money to hold a memorial and celebration of his life. Jai's family would appreciate any contribution you can make to this fund to help defray the costs of his memorial celebration as well as the costs of caring for Jai's mother during this time.

Details of Jai's memorial celebration will be announced and sent directly to all contributors once they are finalized in the coming days. Please join us as we remember "one of the most quick-witted, hilarious, empathetic, and brilliant people to walk this earth."

From Jai's brother, Alex:

His work ethic was second to none, which when paired with his capabilities, allowed for him to excel fast and far academically and vocationally. He made it look effortless. He graduated high school at 16, and college at 19 with a dual degree in history and political science. He dove right into a Masters in Public Administration, all the while working as a legislative aid at the capitol. In 2019 as a 19-year -old he managed 4x local city council races AND ran for an open seat on the Boulder Valley School Board himself. All of his races won, and while he didn’t clinch the school board seat, 14,000 voters in the district voted for my precocious 19-year-old brother over a lawyer who was a 15yr resident of Boulder with two kids in the school district. His ability to turn his dreams into reality is one of the things he will be remembered most for.

While a beam of sunlight to all of those around him, depression was a consistent struggle for Jai from an age too young. He put a lot of effort into figuring out how to care for himself and using the resources around him to help dull that pain.

On Thursday night my little brother lost his battle with depression and took his own life.

Jai leaves a fathomless void in his community, in our family, and in my heart. My brother and I were tremendously close. There’s a whole realm of our lives that he was the only person I could speak with about, and I relied on our relationship for that. I’m trying so hard not to shoulder the weight of the things I could have done differently, but I will always wish that I had been here to help him carry the things that ultimately were too much to bear.

Please say a prayer for my brother Jai, Do good things for the people you love and the community you live in in his honor. This will be his legacy.
