In Honor of Max's Birthday

Alex Schachter at 14 years-old, was tragically killed during the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on February 14, 2018. Alex was one of the first students killed when the murderer fired his AR-15 through the window of Alex’s classroom door. He is survived by his heartbroken parents, three siblings, grandparents and countless cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

In an effort to protect all our children and teachers, Alex’s father Max Schachter formed the non-profit “Safe Schools For Alex” (SSFA), whose mission is to provide the most current school safety best practices and resources to students, parents, school districts and law enforcement so that all children can learn in a safe environment.

This includes a broad range of accomplishments including the promotion of music education through the Alex Schachter Scholarship Fund, and the creation of the Federal School Safety Clearinghouse, which was announced by President Trump on February 10, 2020.

While so much has been accomplished since the formation of SSFA, we still need your help in order to continue our efforts! For this reason, we have increased our goal by $140,000 in honor of Alex.

Your contributions will support our efforts, such as the creation of the below five initiatives:

Champions of School Safety:
The Champions of School Safety program brings together school safety thought leaders, experts and advocates in each of the fifty states for a common purpose of reducing violence in schools.

School Incidents of Violence Database:
Currently there is no readily accessible method to search schools online to visualize the amount of violence happening during a child’s day. In order to make schools safe we are creating a platform so that parents and communities can know what is happening in their child’s school with full transparency.

School Safety Rating System:
In an effort to protect our schools, Safe Schools For Alex is developing a rating system to determine the safety of our schools.

School Safety Advocacy Council:
School safety can not be achieved by state mandates or school administration alone. SSFA is developing a School Safety Advocacy Council to give students step by step instructions so they can take on the mantle of being safety soldiers in their own schools.

Mass Casualty Rapid Response Team (FEMA for Mass Shootings):
Safe Schools For Alex is working to establish a Mass Casualty Rapid Response Team framework that will  jump-start the recovery process for the next tragedy and educate the next community about the impending ripple effects that inevitably lead to increased mental health issues.

This page has been set up by the family of Alex Schachter in Parkland, Florida. Thank you all for your support and generosity.
