<div>I was blessed to be the mamma of an amazing woman for 42 years. I'm proud of her accomplishments, most especially how many lives she touched over the years as a mom, and a fierce advocate for so many people and nature.

<div>Those of us who she left behind would love to honor her with a memorial bench on Silver Beach in St. Joe. From the time she was a baby, Lake Michigan and any beach along it was her playground and haven, so we felt it was the best way to honor her life and memory.

<div>One bench remained, and her dear friend Leslie was able to make the connection for us, but we were only given a few days to reach out to her family, friends, and colleagues. This is the <strong>'in lieu of flowers' opportunity</strong> that many asked about last year. Any money raised above the amount we need for this bench in St. Joe will go toward a memorial in South Haven, where she spent the first 35 years of her life.
