Celebrate beating the odds

My name is Christy Fish… I can't believe I've got this far.  Some of you know me and have heard my story , for those of you who haven’t,  just know that I came from a pretty rough place, where violence and neglect were the norm and I was taught that no one could be trusted and that no one was safe.  So, in every school I went to -every town we moved to - I didn’t ask for help . I never told anyone about the abuse, I never asked for help.  I told myself I could deal with it on my own. When I ended up in foster homes that were also abusive, I didn’t ask for help. And this habit followed me  for years while strung out and living on the streets, I could not ask for help. Until I did, and this amazing thing happened,  I was embraced by a community that loved and supported me all the way to where and who I am now , a far cry from the dark days of my past.  Today I am a mom to a beautiful girl who gets to be loved in a way I never was. Today I am a part of a community. Today I have created a home, a new kind of family and I have a career that is about giving to people. Today I am someone whom people seek out for support, guidance and artistic inspiration.  So, what's the point?.. well through the love and support of a community during A time when I needed help the most, I was able to turn my life around and beat the odds. Today I am in the process of opening up my own business and I jumped into this financial burden on my own but it's too much to do all by myself, I don't have savings, family with money, or even family except my sister,  I survive from one tattoo to the other tattoo and so I am asking for help. After ten years of tattooing I’ve decided to create something that is uniquely my own, I’m doing it for my future, for my daughters future and for my clients too.  I have gotten as far as I can on my own stubborn independence and credit cards and now I have to ask for help to make it to the finish line.   This isn’t a sad ask,  or a desperate ask… This is just a hey-  I hope that you support this celebration of life, if there’s a go fund me when I’m dead, it’s too late. If ever there was a time you wanted to show your support (or if you ever wished to be a part of the success story of a human that was once destined to live a life behind bars but was able to transcend the statistics) that time is now. You can be a part of the triumph that light has over darkness, you can make a difference.  This is hard for me to put this out there, it’s scary thinking I might be all alone in this, it’s embarrassing being exposed and vulnerable, but I’m honoring the “ what if”
