We’re turning 25! It’s 2022 and our anniversary year continues! Our goal is to reach $225,000 by June and we’re already more than halfway there! And we’re looking ahead to the next quarter century! Over the past 25 years, Flying Deer Nature Center has guided people of all ages to create deep and meaningful relationships with nature—relationships that spark joy, build resilience, and nurture understanding of and love for the earth. As we move into the next 25 years, we are dedicated to enlarging the circle of nature connection—giving more individuals, families, and communities the skills to navigate the challenges of today’s world with creativity and compassion. Your generous donation in this anniversary year will support and sustain the following areas of growth: EMPOWERING OUR STUDENTS Creating more avenues for students to practice species preservation and climate action Teaching citizen science, backyard sensitive-species caretaking projects, gardening, and food preservation skills Supporting families to create backyard habitats through resource sharing and workshops NURTURING THE LAND Removing invasive plants and planting 1,000 pollinator and wild food seedlings at FDNC and satellite locations Creating a our first food garden and hiring a garden coordinator to support its integration into programming Cultivating havens for pollinators and other sensitive flora and fauna INCREASING INCLUSIVITY Expanding diversity among staff and leadership Serving surrounding communities by growing projects in Hudson, Pittsfield, and the Capital District Providing 50% more financial assistance than ever before and offering free programming to 800 children in 2022 INVESTING IN OUR STAFF Providing ongoing, robust staff training with specialized instruction in DEI, neurodiversity, and trauma-informed education Funding new year-round staff, paid intern, and paid instructor-in-training positions Enhancing benefits and providing living wages for all staff Thank you for supporting our mission and helping us to bring the gifts of nature connection to more people than ever before!
