Save Historic Birthing Shelter

The Georgia B. Williams Nursing Home, Inc., "Miss Bea's", is located in CAMILLA, GEORGIA and is listed on both the Georgia and National Registers of Historic places. This former birthing center was owned by Mrs. Beatrice Borders,(above on the right) who turned her home into a maternity shelter in the early 1940's. This maternity shelter was the safe-haven birthplace of more than 6000 babies born to mothers who were not allowed to give birth in the local hospitals.
This once vital and vibrant "shelter" is rapidly decaying. However, the Georgia B. Williams Nursing Home Committee, Inc. is working tirelessly to save the building and preserve its unique history.
Once restored, the old shelter will become an interactive museum and community resource and outreach center.
