Cedric is coming!

Last spring, we – 18 high school students and 3 teachers – traveled to Mississippi to talk with a range of people and to explore the history, culture, activism, and food of this powerful place in America.

One of the most amazing people we met was Cedric Sturdevant. His work with young Black gay and transgender people living with HIV/AIDS inspired us! As the New York Times put it, Cedric has played the "role of visiting nurse, motivational coach and father figure."

We are thrilled that Cedric has accepted our invitation to come to San Francisco! He is planning to meet with more high school students and organizations involved in HIV/AIDS work in the Bay Area.

One goal: to help fund Cedric's projects in the Mississippi Delta, an area that lacks resources of all kinds related to HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. Some of these projects include leadership programs for young LGBTQ Black men; getting rid of stigma within communities; and increasing greater cultural exposure for this Delta population.

Cedric works under the leadership of Kathy Garner, CEO of AIDS Services Coalition. The services they will be providing will be HIV testing, HOPWA, food pantries, preventive services, referrals, and PREP education and referrals. Their goal is to develop new partnerships with people living with HIV, the trans community, care providers, and the faith community.
