My inspiration to open the ELC came from a desire to give back to the community of Cordova. After opening in October 2014, we proudly serve 28 children and employ 10 adults with plans to grow in the future!
I am excited to announce I have recently been invited to join the Reggio Emilia: United States Study Group! We will travel to Reggio Emilia, Italy in May 2015 to participate in two professional development conferences. Approximately 1,000 North American educators are selected yearly and I am one of them! The Study Group will research projects and exhibitions presented at the respected Loris Malaguzzi International Center. We will have the exclusive opportunity to tour and study local preschools. The conference’s presentations will bring to life the fundamental principles, essential elements, accomplishments and, of course, the challenges of daily life of the preschools and centers. During the second week of travel, I will be 1 of 10 international administrative educators attending the distinguished Perspectives on Leadership Seminar taking place in the Marche Region of Italy. This is a tremendous opportunity to network and establish an ongoing dialogue of our diverse educational experiences. I am honored to represent not only Cordova, but Alaska as an ambassador of early childhood education implementing the Reggio Emilia Approach in the United States. My invitation brings me together with educators equally passionate about early childhood education, eager to create change in the way we teach.
How You Can Help: I am using this crowdfunding site to request donations to attend the study tour and seminar. The goal is to better apply this innovative teaching approach at Everyday Explorers: ELC and to share my experience with staff, families and the community. Together we can create a powerful and loving network of child advocates, educators and support system for Cordova and beyond.
After initial deposits, the remaining balance is $6,000.
(Tuition, airfare, transportation, room/board & GoFundMe fees).
No donation is too small, any amount of financial aid is greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your support and generosity!
“Good staff development is not something that is undertaken every now and then, reflecting only on the words of someone else. Instead, it is a vital and daily aspect of our work, of our personal and professional identities. Staff development is seen above all as an indispensable vehicle by which to make stronger the quality of our interactions with children and among ourselves.” - Carlina Rinaldi
