Help CCPH Repair Its Roof

Donation protected
For over 20 years the Chicago Center for Psychophysical Healing has been an active part of the community life of Rogers Park.  It has been home to the Chicago College of Healing Arts, which featured programs in Structural Bodywork, The Three Year Training in Clinical Herbalism, Asian Bodywork, numerous workshops and gatherings.  Its free clinics served many people with no access to alternative health care, and the Center often donates product to those in need.  It has also been home to an eclectic series of spiritual offerings, many of them free.  The Center has been a place for people to gather in celebration and mourning, for community activist events (such as sponsoring meetings for the Roger’s Park Food Coop) and occasional spontaneous events such as the community gathering that happened on the night of 9/11.

Currently the Center hosts four free classes a week.  One is a sponsored Forrest Yoga Class taught by Anna Schabold and offered by the Center as a gift to all.  Two are classes in Psychophysical Re-education, movement classes taught by Althea to help keep the body flexible and pain-free.  She also offers a class in Internal Alchemy, which covers meditations designed to extend longevity and promote mental clarity and peacefulness.  All these classes are a gift to the community, open to all on a drop-in basis.

Althea offers a sliding scale or pro-bono work for those in need – in the spirit of tithing she always offers 10% of her time for this purpose.  She likes to hold the Center as a place that is welcome to all, and that is a service to the neighborhood both as a space to gather and as a source of nourishment and education.

Now the Center finds itself in a real difficulty --it needs a new roof, or we will be teaching water aerobics!  After many years of serving as a community space our big classroom has given in to the deluge and in order to go on serving the community we need a tear off. So we are reaching out to ask for your help in order to continue with this wonderful place of gathering.  As Althea is getting older and carries the full weight of the Center alone, it is harder to handle such a big, unexpected expense.  Any contribution would be a blessing, and an affirmation of the Center’s work as a community space.
