Dan was with friends on Friday, July 25, 2014 celebrating at his friend’s bachelor party. At the end of the night (early Saturday morning 7/26 at about 2 am), Dan and his friends stopped at the Seattle Queen Anne Dick’s Drive In for some burgers. While one of his friends went inside to see if they were still open, Dan and others waited by the car. While waiting, Dan and his friends saw a car speeding out of the parking lot that hit two girls on the sidewalk. After hitting the girls with their car, one man got out of the car and started beating them; apparently it wasn’t enough that they hit them with their car! Dan ran over to the girls to break up the fight, and as he was trying to stop the man from beating the girls, the driver of the vehicle ran behind Dan and punched him so hard it broke his jaw. The car sped away and as of right now, there have been no witnesses who have come forward with the license plate or any other information.
The car was a dark green approximately 2002 Cadillac Coupe Deville. The assailants were four black men and one white man. The girls were attacked by a black male wearing a white or grey “wife beater” t-shirt, approximately 5’8”, 175 lbs, with a muscular build. Dan’s jaw was broken by a black male, wearing a white t-shirt, approximately 6’, 170 lbs. Both men appeared to be about 20-25 years of age. Dan would also like to know if the girls are okay; he is afraid that they may have had serious medical injuries as well. Both are petite, approximately 5’2”-5’4”. He states that they reminded him of his fiancée, Jessica, and her best friend Jamie; and that he didn’t hesitate to try and help them as he can’t imagine anyone attacking Jess and Jamie, and no one doing anything to help.
Dan went into surgery Monday 7/28 to screw his jaw shut. He currently has six screws in his mouth anchoring wires to keep his jaw clamped shut. He is resting at home, unable to work, and unable to stand up for more than a few minutes. He will have the screws in for at least a month; in the meantime he is only able to drink small amounts of Ensure sucked via a straw placed between his cheek and his teeth on the side of his jaw that isn’t broken. This surgery cost $22,000 and drained Dan’s savings account; money that was supposed to go towards paying for his last year of tuition at the University of Washington. Dan will have another surgery to remove the screws, and his medical bills are climbing. Dan is studying to become a Mechanical Engineer, and is about to enter his last year of school at the University of Washington. Before going back to school, Dan served as a volunteer firefighter, giving back to his community, like the true Eagle Scout he is. Dan is getting married on 12/13/14, his future wife, Jessica, and his dog, Corona are very worried about him!
