Farming for Hope – Helping Our Veterans, their Families and Community.

Hello, my name is Jared. I am a Veteran and I have served this country as both a Marine and through the National Guard.

On my last tour I was deployed to Iraq for almost 2 years, from Oct 2005 to Aug 2007, leaving my wife and 5 month old daughter at home. In 2006 I was a gunner on the lead scout vehicle for convoys. Our team survived a direct strike of an IED to our vehicle. We were so blessed that no lives were lost in the attack, however I did sustain a traumatic brain injury that affects me to this day. Aside from my injuries I live daily with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as so many Veterans do. Once I returned home I struggled, as many of my brothers and sisters in arms have and continue to do, to rejoin my family and community I left behind. My wife and daughter by my side I have made it through many struggles and I am slowly becoming myself and accepting some things will never be the same again.

This is where ‘Farming for Hope’ retreat comes in. Through lots of research and trial and error I have truly seen the beneficial connection of farming and PTSD. I also firmly believe in natural farming. I have seen the benefits for myself and others in what sustainable farming can do for our community and one’s own health.

Farming for Hope retreats intentions:

At Farming for Hope our dream is to share all these benefits with Veterans, their families and in time the surrounding communities. Through hard work and determination with me, my wife and some very close likeminded friends my dream has the possibility of being realized. We are hoping to purchase available land and make it our future home. With a goal of making it a full size aquaponics program with full green houses and traditional gardens. Ran by families that strive to be self-sustaining and living what we teach. Able to offer year round classes and event’s that teach people everything from setting up their own systems whether hydroponic or aquaponic to making their own soap, raising animals all in ways that work for them in their situation and environment.

We are currently working on becoming a registered non-profit with the IRS. This will be governed by a board of directors comprising of seven individuals. We will offer weekend retreats as well as weeklong immersion classes. With the hopes of also offering a transition program which is a program that helps returning soldiers reconnect with their spouses and children in a relaxing educational environment.

Farming for hope will also be open to schools and the community as well as those who just want to get out and into nature on the trails or in the gardens. If there is the desire to learn we would like to be a part of it. Helping Veterans and growing natural goods to sustain our families and community is what I want Farming for Hope to be and with your help that is possible.

Help us heal!

By making a donation of any size you will do just that. Bring Farming for Hope alive!

Weather you are able to donate or not Please Pass this Along to your family, friends and coworkers. The more that know about our need, the more that can help, the more good we can do for all Veterans, their families and our communities.

Spread among the many the weight is small.

Thank You
