CCF 50 Brain and Behavior Research

Thank you for taking a moment to read this message.

I will be celebrating a milestone birthday this July - five decades of life. I am fortunate to have had the love and support of family and friends, good health, a peaceful and comfortable home.  To commemorate this happy event, I would like to invite you, my friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances, to help me give back to those in need by supporting a worthy cause that impacts 1 in 6 people in the United States alone.

I have set a goal of raising $1,500 to contribute to the important work of The Brain and Behavior Research Foundation by July 28, 2018.  Your contributions to my GoFundMe campaign will help support the research of scientists who are seeking to advance treatment and cures for the debilitating effects of mental illness.

Who among us has not experienced, either personally or through the struggles of friends and loved ones, the impact of mental illness that is so often diminished or misunderstood because no external scars are visible?  Despite what sometimes looks like a healthy outward appearance, we know the basis of mental illness is as relevant as any disease with genetic, environmental or other inexplicable origins. And for those who struggle with mental illness, and those who care for them, managing symptoms and obtaining treatment can be confusing, complex, and often beyond the financial reach of so many in the United States.

To inspire your contributions and raise awareness about my campaign, I will be competing in a half Ironman triathlon in Santa Rosa, California on July 28, 2018. This endurance event is a back-to-back 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike race, and a 13.1 mile run.  I have dedicated the last several months in training to research efforts for prevention, new treatments, and importantly, awareness about brain and behavior disorders.  By crossing the finish line on July 28, I want to encourage you to live your own physically and mentally healthy lives, however you can best do that.

If you cannot, or would rather not, donate, please consider reading about brain and behavior disorders and diseases.  Take just a few minutes to acquire a new understanding about this matter.  And if time permits, I would be very grateful if you would consider following my progress at the Santa Rosa 70.3 Ironman on July 28, 2018.  You can track my progress on race by pointing your browser to ironman.com > See All Live Coverage > Santa Rosa 70.3 then click on Athlete Tracker and enter Constance Flanagan.

I have always believed that, for a good cause, the positive thoughts and will of many must help produce positive outcomes.  And no matter how close or far away you may be from me on July 28, 2018, if you send your thoughts my way, I know you will be helping be complete each stroke in the water, each turn of the pedal on the bike and each stride on the run.

Peace and good health to you and yours and thank you considering my request.
