CCAA's Summer Youth Craft Program

The Center for Craft & Applied Arts is an urban craft organization in Central Detroit. Our mission is to support, promote, and organize craft through education, exhibitions, public programs, community outreach, and economic development.

This Summer, we are launching a youth program for students in Central Detroit where participants will learn textiles and jewelry-making skills, at no cost to the students or their families. In fact, in partnering with Central Detroit Christian CDC and Growing Detroit's Young Talent, all of the young people in our program will be paid as they gain professional skills in small metals or textile work.   

The three goals of the Summer Youth Craft Program are: to provide an orientation to creative skilled production, to empower program participants to achieve creative and skill building goals, and to demonstrate how craft and creative skilled production can provide a meaningful source of income—especially when working with an existing company or as an entrepreneur.  

Through other funding sources and our program partners we have confirmed $25,950 in funding for the program. We must crowd fund the remaining $10,800 in order for the program to run. Your contributions will go directly towards program expenses including: paying dedicated instructors, transportation and materials for this program. 

The curriculum is planned, the instructors are on board, and location & transportation are lined up -- all we need now is your help to make this unique and empowering opportunity a reality for Central Detroit youth!
