<div>Hello, my name is Diana Zamarripa, one of Antonio’s children, and I am reaching out to you on behalf of my family today with a heavy heart and a sense of urgency. My Dad, Antonio Zamarripa, has recently been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. This unexpected medical crisis has left us in a difficult and overwhelming situation, and we are humbly asking for your support.

<div>My dad has always lived with Type 1 Diabetes, but that didn’t let him get in the way of living his life. He was still the life of the party and attended all of our major achievements in life, such as our graduations, with the proudest smile on his face. Slowly but surely, we did notice that my dad’s health was declining. When I arrived from my second year at Vanderbilt University in May, I noticed that my dad was much weaker and did not have the light he used to have. However, due to his lack of health insurance because of his financial and legal status, it was easier for him to take some home remedies that temporarily worked.

<div>After my younger brother’s graduation in June, everything took a turn. He dropped weight faster than anyone I’ve ever met. Additionally, he began to feel a sharp pain in his liver area which was concerning. My parents were able to find the CHRISTUS St. Mary’s Clinic, which provides healthcare services to uninsured and underserved patients, which ultimately was the biggest blessing they could have encountered. Through various tests and examinations, she discovered that the reason for his drastic change was his blood sugar levels being extremely high. After a strict diet to try and monitor his blood sugar levels, his pain got sharper, which meant there was a bigger problem. After a study, the doctor told my parents and my older sister that he had a mass on his liver and pancreas that was interfering with his body functions. Little did we know, this was much greater than uncontrolled diabetes.

<div>On July 8th, he was hospitalized because of a clear indication of pancreas failure: yellowing of the skin and eyes. Without knowing the extremity of his pancreas failure, he remained in emergencies until a room was available for him to receive treatment. 8 days after continuous tests and examinations, my parents received the news they feared. My dad has terminal pancreatic cancer. Our hearts sank. Not only does this mean that my dad may not make it to my sister's college graduation in December, but it also means that he will remain in the hospital receiving care until his last breath. Throughout this experience, my dad refuses to see anyone shed a tear because he is aware that life moves on and that we all still have more to experience.

<div>While we are incredibly thankful for the fantastic healthcare team that has been taking care of him, we do often worry about the costs of his treatments. The costs associated with our Dad’s intensive care, surgical procedures, hospital stay, and medications are substantial and beyond what our family can manage alone. Despite receiving last-minute state health insurance, the deductibles, copayments, and various uncovered expenses are already piling up. Therefore, the money that is raised through this GoFundMe will be directly used to help my mom pay for the medical bills that the health insurance will not cover to help reduce some stress off her shoulders.
