Hurricane Irma left more than 200,000 people without power and by the time Hurricane Maria hit there were more than 60,000 people without power (my parents and relatives in Comerío as an example). After Maria, the whole Island went black and the surroundings were total devastation (natural and infrastructure).

Most of the help has been arriving to the metro areas, however the towns and people from the center of Island are usually the last ones to receive help. It is expected that power will get restored between 5-6 months (being optimistic) ...who knows how long is going to take for the rural center areas.

I will adopt my home town (Comerío) to raise funds to help get power again and provide some relief. Maria’s track shows how the eye passed across my community (El Cedrito) leaving agricultural destruction, around 1,200 houses destroyed and a washer machine from two houses down in my parent’s yard. There is no electricity, water and/or telecommunications yet. I haven’t been be able to talk with the parents yet, but my sister drove from San Juan area to their house and they are safe!

The goal is to collect money to buy solar light bulbs. We are going to be sending boxes using the post office/fedex and my sister and friends/relatives are going to distribute them house by house. The first community is going to be El Cedrito (because I'm from there and it would be easier and faster) with 1,269 habitants. If we could help 20 families that is good. If we could help more that is great. We could reach other areas once we establish communication with the town offices and other community leaders.

Maybe your light bulb is the only light they are going to be seeing  on Christmas.  With $30 or $40  we can give three or four light bulbs per family.

Solar Powered Light Bulb $10.99
