Cayr's business, fire relief fund

Donation protected

At 2am on July 5, 2017,
Cayr and Matt Curtis and their family were awaken by smoke detectors going off in their home. They were able to get their 5 children and  dog out safely but their home was on fire. Fireworks from just a few hours before had re-lit in the garbage can on the side of their home and their garage was engulfed in flames.

Four and a half years ago, Cayr was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer and she fought a hard battle through a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation and 3 surgeries, including reconstruction. 9 months later she was declared cancer free but that doesn't end the healing.  The powerful treatments and drugs she was told to continue to take not only took a physical tole on her but an emotional and mental one. Fast forward 2 years to December of 2015 and a miracle idea helped Cayr to find joy and helped her focus outside of her healing. All of her 7 kids were now in school full time and starting a quilting business she could do from home helped her to not think about the continued pain and healing as she was home alone all day.

Matt worked so hard to transform their garage into a place where she could have a clean space and enough room to have all her equipment and materials she needed. Cayr came alive again through this business and it has been such a blessing to their family.

Now, their garage is gone. Everything was completely destroyed in the fire. Her long arm quilting machine, embroidery machine, threads, batting, material, patterns, quilts (including antique heirlooms) are all gone. Upon contacting their insurance company, they are able to rebuild their garage and areas of the home that were destroyed and replace their personal items but the insurance will not cover ANYTHING that was involved in her business. Unless we can come up with the funds that are needed for Cayr to purchase her machines and materials again, her beloved Treasured Quilting and Embroidery buisess will have to close it's doors for good. They just don't have the funds needed to start it up again.

I know what this business has meant to her and their family. I saw her and talked to her through those devistaing and challenging times as she was treated for her cancer and then left to try to recover her health. I witnessed the spark and life come back into her eyes as she was able to find joy in quilting and helping others create works of art. Please help in any way you can to help us save Cayr's business. Even a few dollars can go a long way if we all contribute. Please share this page and help us help Cayr and Matt and their family through this tragedy.

Thank you!
