Help send Candyce & Marius Paul, Susana Deranger and Evening Star to the the Peoples Social Forum!

All to often, those who can least afford to travel to conferences and networking opportunities are the voices that most need to be heard. Ensuring good representation of front-line struggles and supporting youth activists is a shared responsibility the requires us all to pitch in.

Four Indigenous Saskatchewan activists are trying to attend the Peoples Social Forum, to represent their communities and seek support for the struggles in which they're involved.

ABOUT CANDYCE & MARIUS

Candyce and Marius are two concerned Earth citizens of First Nations descent who live on LaPlonge Reserve near Beauval in northern Saskatchewan.

For many years, northern Saskatchewan has been involved in mining uranium, some of the highest grade (read: most radioactive) uranium in the world. From northern Saskatchewan, uranium goes out to various parts of the world to fuel both nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons. There is, unfortunately, a little piece of Saskatchewan in every American nuclear weapon and in most of the nuclear reactors in Europe, North America and Japan. As well, uranium mining is leaving a legacy of toxic radioactive uranium mine tailings in northern Saskatchewan itself.

In recent years, northern Saskatchewan has been among the regions targeted for the possible long term burial of post-reactor high level nuclear waste. Candyce and Marius Paul became active with Committee for Future Generations in the fight against the idea of burying nuclear waste in Saskatchewan in 2011, Marius has been involved in the stand against uranium mining since the 1970’s and brings his knowledge and broader criticism of the nuclear industry as a whole.

Candyce and Marius would like to go to the Peoples Social Forum in Ottawa in August 2014. They have registered to host a workshop on the topic of nuclear waste and resisting the nuclear industry.

ABOUT SU & EVENING STAR

Su Deranger is a grandmother and long time First Nations social justice and environmental activist. She lives in Regina, but has been involved locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally in a wide range of issues as she spearheaded many innovative activities and actions. Su has also been involved in the organization of the Peoples Social Forum since the first general assembly.

Evening Star Andreas is a First Nations activist involved in social justice, standing up for Mother Earth, in charge of Missing Murdered Aboriginal and People events and actions in Regina, volunteers to find food and cook in order to feed street people on her own initiative, and started the first flash mob round dance during the height of the Idle No More movement.

Su and Evening Star would also like to go to Ottawa to participate, present, and volunteer in the Peoples Social Forum.
